Investment Advisor
Shane Skelly joined North Compass Financial Advisors in October 2025 after purchasing his practice from The First National Bank of Coleraine. He has been serving clients as a financial advisor since 2008 and is passionate about helping individuals, families, business owners, and retirees simplify their financial lives and gain confidence in their financial future. Shane believes financial planning should be personal, comprehensive, and tailored to each client's unique goals, values, and vision of financial freedom.
A lifelong resident of northern Minnesota, Shane grew up in Grand Rapids and maintains deep roots in the community he serves. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Duluth, majoring in Finance with a minor in accounting. Shane holds Series 63 and Series 65 securities licenses, along with Life and Health Insurance licenses.
At North Compass Financial, Shane works closely with clients on retirement planning, investment management, retirement income strategies, tax planning, estate planning coordination, charitable giving, and business succession planning. He is particularly passionate about helping families navigate complex financial decisions while collaborating with attorneys, accountants, and other professionals to ensure every aspect of a client's financial life works together efficiently and effectively.
Shane believes successful financial planning extends beyond investments alone. By taking a comprehensive approach, he helps clients identify opportunities, solve challenges, and create a clear path toward their financial goals. Whether helping a business owner prepare for succession, guiding a family through retirement, or developing charitable and legacy planning strategies, Shane is committed to delivering thoughtful advice and exceptional service.
Outside the office, Shane enjoys spending time with his wife, Clair, and their two daughters, Kylie and Emma. He is an active member of the Grand Rapids community, serving on the Grand Itasca Foundation Board. He is also a member and volunteer with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF), the Star of the North Lions Club, and is a volunteer on the Cohasset Fire Department.
An avid outdoorsman, Shane enjoys bow hunting, canoe trips, ice fishing, and golfing. His passion for the outdoors, community involvement, and helping others reflects the same values he brings to his relationships with clients every day.
Shane's mission is simple: to provide financial direction by simplifying and organizing his clients' financial lives, helping them make informed decisions and pursue the freedom to live life on their own terms.
